The Holy Island weekend was another superb event that took place over the 26th and 27th
April 2003. A total of 20 club members and friends in 11 Italian cars met up at the Little Chef just off the A1 at North Charlton - 8 miles north of
Alnwick.
From there a short drive took us to our lunch stop in the nearby fishing village of Seahouses for fish and chips. Lunch was followed by a spectacular boat trip around the
Farne Islands. There are 28 islands in all situated between 2-5 miles off the Northumberland coast. They exist because of the resistant volcanic rock of which they are made. Nowhere in the British Isles can such a variety of seabirds and grey seals be found in such a small area. A landing was made at Inner Farne the largest of the
Farne Islands where St. Cuthbert spent the final days of his life.
We arrived at the Longstone House Hotel late in the afternoon to watch a brilliant surprise showing of a video of our 2002 Christmas
Get-together in Scarborough. A superb 3 course evening meal followed later accompanied by plenty of drinks and banter.
After breakfast on the Sunday we drove onto the Holy Island Of Lindisfarne which offers a number of different places to visit and enjoy from wild, spectacular seascapes and unspoiled beaches to a ruined priory, a castle and a variety of shops.
Access to Holy Island is via a causeway, which is only accessible at low tide; this is a most fantastic site! As the island is totally isolated during high tide.
This outstanding weekend had again all the right ingredients to ensure everyone had a great time: spectacular scenery, great food, good weather and excellent company.
