Easter in France

Easter in France was a great success; there were twelve of us. We left on Tuesday 22nd April and returned on Sunday 27th April. The boat sailed at 7.30 a.m. and there was brilliant sunshine all the way and the sea was like a milk pond. We disembarked at lunch time and some of us went directly to the Hotel and some didn't! I don't think they planned it that way but that's how it worked out. We visited a Chateau at Courreges, XIV - XVII century, the Le Mans Circuit, several towns and we generally behaved liked a bunch of silly kids, jumping into the Hotel swimming pool - which we had to ourselves. Its a wonder we didn't break something.

Unexpectedly, the Hotel guests took quite an interest in our cars. There were three old Fiat Coupes, a 124, 130 and a 2300 plus an Alfa and two cars of unmentionable origin. It seems that some of the guests at the Hotel were members of car clubs although that was not the reason for their visit.

After all this excitement we had a quiet journey back to the Port, another smooth crossing and safe return home.

A special mention should be made of Ian Huntley (one of our overseas members) who came all the way from South Africa to join us having purchased a 2300 coupe in Birmingham which he then drove to Cornwall to visit Ricky Reid and then on to Portsmouth to join us. Not bad for a 30something year old car and says much for Fiat's durability and much-maligned Fiat reliability.
