The people at AutoItalia magazine had exclusively booked the
racing circuit at Donington park on 29th July,
2001. It was a unique opportunity for owners of Italian cars to drive
their thoroughbreds at speed around the world famous motor racing
circuit.
There
were a number of sessions during the day to ensure the track was never
over crowded. For those who were not happy to thrash their cars at full
speed around the track there were a number of 'cruising' laps behind a
pace car at controlled speed.
There were also passenger rides available for people to experience
the thrill of going round the race track but were not confident to drive
their own cars.
All kinds of Italian cars were present on the day with a lot of
owners' clubs gathering in force. The Fiat Motor
Club (GB) was also out in force as this day was declared as one of the
club's National days. A number of members drove their cars round the
track while others decided to be spectators and treated the day as the
social gathering of Italian Car enthusiasts which it was.
Below
are some photographs giving you a passenger's view of the track (with the
white knuckles hidden from camera's view!). There are no prizes for
guessing from what type of Fiat the photographs were taken but if
you think you know then tell us by e-mail to carguess@fiatmotorclubgb.com.
