2006 saw the Forza Italia event at Santa Pod. This was an excellent day out, and many of our members turned out despite the weather forecast (fortunately he rain held off although it was cold & windy)! There was a great selection of cars on display, including loads of Coupes - certainly the most I've seen gathered in one place.
Auto Italia had arranged for full use of the drag strip, and a fantastic array of Fiats Alfas and Lancias took full advantage - one lone Ferrari also took to the strip. The Coupes were out in force, and Kirsty was out to prove a point - her standard turbo posting an excellent time compared to other standard Coops. Tim Andrews took the Tipo out, as did Mike Russo in a newly chipped Punto - both putting up good times. We had great fun watching the various cars, and it was interesting to note that almost without exception the older cars were quicker off the line (though ultimately slower) - down to the so called essential catalysts etc I suppose!
Other attractions included slightly modified Fiat 500 & 600 dragsters - clocking well over 120mph on the 1/4 mile strip! The jet car was also in action for a single run - this has to be seen (and heard) to be believed, shaking the whole stand on tickover........ A great day out - next time we might be persuaded to take some of the older stuff onto the strip for a laugh too.
