After the outstanding success of last
year's Lake District weekend, I knew I just had to arrange another one. This year's event took place on 19-21 September.
30 club members and friends in a total of 16 Italian cars took part. This was one of the best selections of cars we have ever had and looked fantastic as we drove along in convoy through this most beautiful part of the country.
One big disappointment however compared to last year was the weather, Saturday saw torrential rain that never stopped all day, Sunday was somewhat
better with a mixture of sunshine and showers, despite this it did not dampen our spirits with everyone still managing to have a great time.
We all met up on the Friday evening and just chilled out in the pub as most of us had had a hectic day at work followed by a long drive in heavy rain. We stayed two nights at the
Rockside Guest House and Greywalls Hotel in Windermere.
On the Saturday we took the car ferry across Lake Windermere and carried on our tour of Near Sawrey, Grizedale Forrest, Tarn Hows and Hawkshead. We also had a ride aboard the
Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and enjoyed lunch at the Station Tea Rooms.
On the night we made a return visit to the excellent Messinas Italian Restaurant were we again enjoyed
superb food in our private room with its own bar.
On the Sunday we had a fantastic drive around six lakes and Back O' Skiddaw. We visited Aira Force, one of Cumbria's most spectacular waterfalls, which was in full flow following all that heavy rain!
We enjoyed lunch at the Snooty Fox in Uldale and later explored the delights of Grasmere on foot.
All in all yet another fantastic weekend with a number of new faces all of which thoroughly enjoyed the
company, the food and most importantly our cars. Roll on next year's event!
